Kettering’s Polen Farm, a wide-open park surrounded by neighborhoods, is a community treasure. This 19th-century farmstead, with its rustic barn, historic home, and large green space, offers a perfect small indoor and outdoor wedding venue. Today, Polen is a vibrant cultural center, hosting a myriad of events, workshops, and gatherings throughout the year. Its setting provides the perfect backdrop for weddings, festivals, educational programs, and artistic endeavors. Polen Farm can host weddings near the outdoor gazebo or inside the barn. The choice is yours! Receptions are mainly held in the barn with the catering being set up on the ground floor.
Weddings at Polen Farm have always been smart and sweet for me. This historic Kettering Ohio wedding venue features a beautiful house that doubles as the getting ready area for the wedding party as well as a staging area for the vendors. Outside is a wedding gazebo with permanent bench seating. The preserved and restored barn (also sealed from the cold) is a nice space for small weddings in Dayton. There is ample space for the catering company and buffet on the ground floor away from the party area.
My Take On A Polen Wedding
This is an adequate Kettering venue that is good for smaller weddings. The barn is comfortable in the fall and winter but can get hot on warm days. Good and reliable!

Winter Wedding At Kettering Ohio’s Best Barn-Themed Wedding Venue
Just before Christmas 2022, I photographed this thoughtful couple’s wedding at Polen Farm in Kettering, Ohio. It had been a few years since I shot a Polen Farm wedding, so I was happy to be back. Once every two or three years I photograph a November or December wedding. While these are always fun, this one was different. Whatever comes my way, this is always Kettering Ohio’s best barn-themed wedding venue.
The wedding couple was a little older than most and wanted a few getting-ready photos. In addition, I didn’t meet them ahead of time. We had a phone or Zoom meeting to discuss things, but the wedding day was our first meeting. The bride’s sister was the point of contact for the day and did a fantastic job. She could be a professional wedding planner if she wanted.
This couple was having a pre-Christmas wedding that had to include Santa Claus, of course. Santa and Mrs. also had presents for the kids. The barn is weather-sealed and was warm enough to not wear a coat. The upstairs held tables and a dance floor while the ground floor served as the catering location. Because this is a wooden structure, certain things are not allowed such as sparklers.

One more thing I forgot to mention. The giant movable barn door facing the east is great on warmer days. During this cold wedding, the door stayed closed except during the first look.
It was a great day for everyone, and a great day to end the 2022 wedding season as a Dayton photographer.

Where I excel and set myself apart is being able to bring out the best in my photo subjects. I do my best to create a fun, professional, and relaxed photo session. Dayton Ohio Firefighter Wedding At A Kettering Indoor-Outdoor Reception
My First Dayton Ohio Firefighter Wedding
Saturday’s Polen Farm wedding was filled with firefighters and fun people and was my first Dayton Ohio Firefighter Wedding. The bride and groom arrived at Polen Farm / Polen Farms for their wedding reception in a vintage fire truck. The bride had arranged a vintage firetruck rental and had alerted me. After the church wedding ceremony, we went outside to watch the groom’s surprise. He was blown away. The wedding couple got in the truck and drove away.
The grounds of Polen Farm / Polen Farms are beautiful and provide an elegant backdrop for wedding photographs in and around Dayton, Ohio. All had a good time and enjoyed City Barbecue’s catering while dancing the night away in this rustic, chic barn wedding setting. This was my first Dayton Ohio firefighter wedding, and it did not disappoint!
During the reception at Polen Farm, we gathered several guests for outdoor photos. Several guests were firefighters and brought their helmets to the reception. Many wedding photos are of these people in their helmets. This was such a fun and unique wedding.
While I didn’t get to ride the fire truck, I did get to photograph the wedding couple in front of it. The couple rode from the wedding to the reception in the cab of the truck. What a cool unique touch to this wedding! This was the first time a fire truck was at a wedding of mine, but (future me here) there were two other instances. Once, a DJ’s smoke machine set off the fire alarms. The other instance was another false alarm at a golf course.
