The Powerhouse In Downtown Dayton Will Be Transformed Into The New Home Of Infinity Labs

I was able to parlay my commercial photography work with other developers into photographing Dayton’s DP&L’s original power plant, the Powerhouse In Downtown Dayton. I’ve been driving past this abandoned building at the intersection of Fourth Street and St. Clair just steps away from the Oregon District and St. Clair Lofts. One day, I hoped to gain legal entry and photograph this beautiful, decaying building.
For years I have been photographing vacant properties for Dayton-area developers such as Miller-Valentine and Cross Street Partners. For this property, I worked my sources and found a way in. This former power generation plan is massive. There are three levels including a basement. I didn’t dare venture into the basement as there was no electricity in the building.
Inside is a bunch of leftover junk, parts, and other items that will eventually be discarded or recycled. The building is structurally sound and will be a good home base for Infinity Labs once complete. There is enough space in this building to house dozens of employees, so this will be great for the city. I know that when it is redeveloped, the developers will have incorporated many artifacts and aspects into the finished product.
It was worth the wait, and I am looking forward to photographing it when it is done. Infinity Labs bought the building and is going to develop this into an amazing downtown Dayton property. This will be a great addition to the downtown area and will help connect it with the Oregon District.
