Mendelson’s Building In Dayton Redevelopment By Crawford Hoying To Become The Delco

In July 2021 I gained legal access to the former Mendelson’s building in Dayton, Ohio. The building is being redeveloped by Crawford Hoying. I have been driving past this iconic Dayton building since I was little, always wondering what sat inside. At some point years ago, I ventured into the front door to see boxes of new-old stock (NOS) for sale. I was less than interested.

Mendelson’s Building In Dayton & Me

On this day, I was the only person in the entire empty six-story building. I methodically made my way floor-by-floor capturing the most interesting parts. Some of my favorite photos are of the open floor and columns reflecting in the leaking water puddled on the floor.

As part of my exploration of this historic local site, I was able to access the roof. While the roof is nothing special, the iconic water tower on the roof was spectacular. I never thought I’d be standing under this and photographing it. While I was up there, I created aerial photos of the City of Dayton that not many people have had the opportunity to take.

Below are photos of the most interesting things I found on each floor of this amazing and large warehouse in Dayton. I love photographing Dayton buildings before redevelopment and after, documenting what was and what now is. Check out my commercial photography pages to see more commercial work I have been doing. Eventually, this building will become a mix of commercial space, parking, and residential. Next door to the east and across the street from the Dayton Dragons’ DayAir Ball Park is the future home of the AC Hotel Dayton. This Marriott-branded property is going to be a great addition to the redevelopment of downtown Dayton.
