Moynihan Train Hall At Penn Station Is The Train Station For Amtrak And LIRR

In August 2022 I took my wife on our fifth trip to New York City. This trip was a birthday surprise to see the Harry Styles concert opening night at Madison Square Garden. While we spent a few nights in the West Village, we did plenty of sightseeing. Below are some photos of the new Moynihan Train Hall where the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak stations are.

The Moynihan Train Hall, located at Penn Station in New York City, is the main train station for Amtrak and LLIRR passengers in and out of Manhattan. This transportation hub officially opened to the public in early 2021. The late U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan first proposed the idea of a grand train hall at Penn Station in the 1990s. A grand station once stood on the site of Madison Square Garden before it was demolished in the name of sports and entertainment.

This amazing and convenient station, designed by architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, is a modern transportation design. The hall features a glass ceiling or atrium that provides great amounts of natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere for commuters and travelers. The station’s sleek and minimalist design is punctuated by a stunning skylight that runs the entire length of the building.

In addition to the stunning architecture, the Moynihan Train Hall offers a variety of amenities for passengers. The station features comfortable seating areas (unlike Grand Central Terminal), Wi-Fi, and a range of food options, including several high-end restaurants, fast-casual eateries, and coffee shops. The Moynihan Train Hall is a must-see if you aren’t traveling by train. These are just some of the cool locations I photograph as a travel photographer. I love New York City!
