Dayton Senior Photos In A Park Vandalia Butler High School Senior

Senior Photos In Vandalia
For this great summer Dayton senior photography session, a Vandalia-Butler High School senior hired me to photograph in and around Vandalia, Ohio. As this city is very special to me, I had plenty of ideas of where to photograph him. We started at the high school, moved to Seger Park, and ended up on National Drive in the city’s central business district. The challenge on this day was the traffic that is present on National. One of the things I do best is minimizing distractions in photos. So, you’ll not see any cars or business signs in the background.
We finished up our senior pictures session down by the river in the secluded Aullwood MetroPark at the south side of Englewood Dam. The Aullwood Audubon Center is a different area of the MetroPark. We parked next to the river, away from the crowded nature center. Because of the time of day, we didn’t have too many distractions to work around. It was a really pleasant outdoor park-themed senior session.
Vandalia Butler High School Baseball Player Senior Pictures
I had the pleasure of creating senior pictures for my nephew, a Vandalia-Butler High School senior. I have been working with him on how to pose for 18 years, so I know him in and out. I know that his shoulders tend to come forward prior to photos. He is such a pro now that he knows to straighten his back and pull his shoulders back. Taking directions is a strong point of his, so photographing his senior photos was incredibly easy. I love taking Vandalia-Butler senior photos.
We started the day with an hour-long session at Carriage Hill MetroPark in Huber Heights. In case you were wondering, I was permitted by MetroParks. The working farm provided great backdrops such as grey wood barns, red wood barns, and plenty of texture. There are white fences and red brick to use as well. You can see from the photos below that I use a variety of locations and poses to capture his personality. Carriage Hill is great photo spot for these reasons.
Once done at the farm, we spent 30 minutes photographing him on the Butler baseball field. His high school baseball career took place here, so we opted to use it in the photos. While he didn’t wear a full uniform, we did many photos in his Aviator pullover. I loved using the ball, bat, and glove as props too. As I have sated in another senior photos blog post, I would always prefer a full uniform for sports photos.
Butler High School Senior Pictures Downtown Dayton
Last year I had the pleasure of capturing this young lady’s Butler High School senior pictures. I have known her since she was 2 and was at daycare with my nephew. At age 5, I photographed their “marriage” on the steps of daycare with a rock as a wedding ring. This could technically be considered the first wedding I ever photographed. I’ve seen them grow up. I was ecstatic when her family asked me to create her Dayton senior pictures this summer. Vandalia-Butler senior photos are always extra special to me.
In order to build my senior photo portfolio, they agreed to do two sessions. The first session was done at a restaurant on Wayne Avenue. This eclectic vintage interior fit her vibe perfectly. After about an hour and an outfit change, we made our way to the Oregon District. While I have done dozens of engagement sessions there, I have never done senior pictures there. The session went great, and she was a perfect model for me.
The last location, not pictured below, was Charleston Falls Preserve in Miami County. We spent most of our time at the lesser-known pond and field area of the park. This provided very tall summer grasses that she looked great sitting in. I really loved all three locations, and each had their high points. Should you choose Charleston Falls senior photos, make sure you choose a cooler day. People often get hot walking to the locations while are 1/4 mile from the parking lot.
Top 3 Things I Love About Photographing Seniors
- Vandalia is an underused city for senior pictures and my home town.
- It is the school district where I went to school, so photos are meaningful to me.
- Generally, I know the area well, so I have endless ideas for senior photo locations north of downtown Dayton.
