On a recent trip to Detroit, Michigan, I toured Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Redwings NHL hockey team. This is also the Detroit Pistons‘ home court as well. The reason I wanted to tour this arena is because it hosts some of the biggest concerts every year. Being a concert photographer, I always love seeing new concert venues and documenting the empty venues.
Little Caesars Arena (LCA) seats 17,000 and sits just a five-minute walk from downtown. It’s a modern venue surrounded by parking lots. Tours cost $20 and are well worth it, led by a knowledgeable guide.
Some of music’s biggest names have performed at LCA, but fans know it best as the home of the Detroit Red Wings. I especially enjoyed seeing the underground practice rink surrounded by championship banners and 200 seats. Since it’s usually closed to the public, photographing it felt like a rare privilege.
I loved the gondolas at LCA—seating areas that hang from the ceiling. We visited one and enjoyed an incredible view of the floor below. Watching a hockey game from that vantage point would be amazing.
