While I don’t watch sports, I do love touring stadiums and venues, including historic ones like Dodger Stadium. In November 2024, I took my uncle on a trip to Los Angeles. As we had extra free time before heading to Griffith Observatory nearby, I decided to surprise him with a stadium tour. He is a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan, so I was unsure if he’d like Dodger Stadium. Turns, out, he loved it.
I was most interested in how this baseball palace has changed over the years. There are is section of original seats along the third base line. The wing-shaped roofs in the outfield were awesome. It was a reminder of the great design and architecture of the 1950s and early 1960s.
The circular parking around the stadium was a great idea. At some many ball parks, there is only limited parking at the venue, often underground. So, seeing this cool design was a surprise. Another surprise was the great panaoramic view to the south of the City of Los Angeles. I’ve seen this view so many times on television, not knowing where it was shot.
The tour guide can either make or break a tour. The tour guide we had for this tour was a die-hard Dodgers fan, and he exuded excitement the entire time. Talking about the current and past players was his forte. I couldn’t care less about the players, but I enjoyed his enthusiam. The historic nature and design was why I was there.
While I don’t retain much information from a tour, the history of Dodger Stadium was not lost on me. Dodger Stadium is one of baseball’s most iconic stadium, opening in 1962 as the new home for the Los Angeles Dodgers after their move from Brooklyn. Built into the hills of Chavez Ravine, the stadium combines sweeping city views with the energy of Major League Baseball. Over the decades, it has hosted legendary players, unforgettable postseason moments, and even concerts that drew massive crowds. Despite being the oldest Major League Baseball stadium west of the Mississippi, Dodger Stadium continues to feel modern, thanks to constant upgrades. Photographing here was amazing except for the construction.
This stadium was a great addition to my other stadiums and travel photography.
