The Landing, a historic apartment complex in Dayton, Ohio has been on my must-do list. I’ve been seeing this high-rise for YMCA between the Great Miami River and downtown Dayton. This giant building sits at 115 West Monument Avenue and has an imposing presence. I think most people know this at the Dayton YMCA building. […]
In November 2019, I captured these unique photos of downtown Dayton from the YMCA Building (now The Landing). In the distance, you can Stratacache, CareSource, The Biltmore, and some of the Water Street District. I’ve driven by this church thousands of times without really taking a good look. Well, you can’t get a better look […]
Downton Dayton Theatre And Arts Project Since May 2016, I have been working on a volunteer project for the Victoria Theatre Association. They consisted of photographing Victoria Theatre, Benjamin and Marian Schuster Center, The Loft Theatre, and most recently, the PNC Arts Annex. I’ve photographed each location free of patrons, guests, and workers. I’ve loved […]
Since 2016, I have been working on a volunteer project for the Victoria Theatre Association. It consisted of photographing Victoria Theatre, Benjamin and Marian Schuster Center, The Loft Theatre, and most recently, the PNC Arts Annex. I’ve photographed each location free of patrons, guests, and workers. I’ve loved the performing arts since I saw Muse Machine’s 1992 production of South Pacific from the balcony of the Victoria Theatre. During high school, I worked as a stagehand during Muse Machine’s The Music Man and Me And My Girl. At that time, I fell in love with Victoria Theatre and the old theatre buildings.
If you have a few hours free in Louisville, take some time to walk around. There are so many unique buildings, interesting angles, and historic properties. This would be a great city to photograph newly engaged couples for the engagement sessions. I would also love to photograph weddings in downtown Louisville!
On a fall 2018 afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was downtown Louisville itself. Below are images of some interesting architecture that caught my eye while exploring Louisville. I didn’t set out to photograph a specific building or location. Wandering around cities doing real-time discovery of things is so much fun for me.
On a fall 2018 afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was 4th Street Live Louisville, downtown Louisville’s entertainment district. This entertainment district is just a few blocks south of “Museum Row” also known as Main Street. There are numerous restaurants, an outdoor live music stage, bowling, and more! Although it was a Tuesday afternoon when I visited, there were still people around. I am sure that on evenings and weekends, this is the place to be, especially for tourists! Make sure to check out the Hard Rock Cafe and its giant neon guitar.
In 2018, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was The Louisville Palace Theatre on Fourth Street just south of Fourth Street Live. Below are photos of this 1928 historic theatre that has a beautiful and colorful facade. I was unable to photograph inside the theatre due to a timing issue, but the outside was so beautiful that it made up for not seeing the inside.
Horse Racetrack Photos On the last weekend of June 2018, I took a day trip to photograph some of Louisville Kentucky’s tourist attractions. Below are my images of Churchill Downs horse race track and home of the Kentucky Derby. It was a beautiful morning to photograph the grounds of this famous racetrack. I would love […]
On a hot sunny day in May 2018, I was granted legal access to photograph what remains of the abandoned Americana Amusement Park / LeSourdesville Lake in Monroe, Ohio. The property is soon to become Monroe Bicentennial Commons! There are many buildings that remain on this river-side property, and they were great to photograph. The City of Monroe plans to tear down some buildings, leave others, and reuse benches, walkways, trash cans, picnic tables, and more as part of their plans for future green space for the community. I want to thank the City of Monroe for this opportunity. I have waited patiently for many years to get this opportunity. It was more exciting than I could have imagined! I never thought I would get to photograph an abandoned amusement park.
