Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, was a fun stadium to visit. This is the home of the Detroit Tigers, and it’s a relatively recent addition to Major League Baseball’s lineup of stadiums. It replaced the historic Tiger Stadium, which was located nearby. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to visit the old stadium before it was demolished.
Comerica Park is situated on the edge of downtown Detroit, within walking distance of the downtown core and Little Caesars Arena, where the Detroit Pistons and Red Wings play. In addition to hosting Detroit Tigers baseball games, the stadium also serves as a venue for concerts and other events throughout the year.
The park has a design typical of baseball stadiums built since the 1990s, similar to PNC Park, Great American Ball Park, and others. It’s an open-air stadium, exposed to the elements. I took the stadium tour during my visit, which was a fantastic experience. We got to explore areas of the ballpark that fans wouldn’t typically see. This included one of the locker rooms, tunnels, and various seating sections.
As someone who photographs Cincinnati Reds games at Great American Ball Park, I enjoy comparing stadiums during my tours. While Great American Ball Park is my home stadium, it’s not my favorite overall. Comerica Park stands out with its rich Tigers and baseball history, as well as interactive features for fans. These fans can enjoy activities beyond the game itself. Although I didn’t attend a game there, the atmosphere and amenities suggested it would provide a better overall fan experience compared to what I’m used to.
If you’re in Detroit and looking for a budget-friendly activity, I highly recommend the Comerica Park tour. Pairing it with a tour of Little Caesars Arena makes for an excellent way to spend a couple of hours for around $50. I did both in one day and had a great time. While I might not return unless it’s for a concert or game, I’m glad I got to experience both venues.
