Zander’s 1901 Wedding Reception And Event Center Downtown Baltimore Maryland

In June 2023 I toured The Alexander Brown Building at 135 East Baltimore Street in Baltimore Maryland, now known as Zander’s 1901. This former exquisite and historic bank building will be the home of Zander’s, wedding reception and event venue downtown. The building was built in 1903 as a highly secure bank just north of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. This is what I love about travel photography!

We got a private tour one weekend morning and got to see everything this wedding venue has to offer. The large Tiffany glass dome in the former bank lobby is exquisite and in perfect working order. The marble and the vintage stylings make this the perfect historic wedding venue who want to incorporate history and style. Among the coolest things in the building is the original bank vault in the basement. I have been in several vaults over the last few years, and this had the most ornate door by far.

At every turn, this building had something to offer. From the first working bathroom in the U.S. to have indoor plumbing, to the original murals on the walls, to the original ledgers from the bank’s heyday, I loved every space I saw. Additionally, the old staircases and giant heavy doors were in great condition. As a historic building lover and wedding venue photographer, this venue had it all for me.

Built in 1901, this architectural masterpiece commands attention with its impressive Beaux-Arts design, characterized by its ornate details and intricate craftsmanship. The double-height entrance greets guests with a stunning lobby adorned with marble floors, coffered ceilings, and exquisite chandeliers. Lastly, the building’s rich history makes it a landmark, once serving as the home of the Alexander Brown & Sons Banking House. Today, the Alexander Brown Building continues to serve guests with great commercial spaces.
