The newest entry on my list of popular Dayton wedding and reception venues is The Reverie at SouthBrook Church in Miamisburg/Springboro. Driving by, SouthBrook looks like any other mega church. Upon entering on the south west side, it becomes obvious that this is a great event space. The church is located close to the parking lot and can seat a lot of people. For this small wedding, the church was mostly empty.
The other useable areas include wedding prep suites, reception room, and the best part, a giant hallway. I know it sounds weird, but this long, wide hallway is perfect for events. At the far north end were two mobile bars and a coffee station. Situated through the space were high top tables and appetizer tables for cocktail hours. Two large restrooms are also available. While we couldn’t go outside due to the pouring rain, the outdoor patio is perfect for people to have small group chats during a wedding day. There are comfortable loungers, cafe lights, and fire pits available.
Upon my early arrival to this wedding, almost every bit of wedding prep had been completed. The couple only hired me for 5 hours, so this was expected. I prefer when wedding couples front load the day providing plenty of time for me to capture their getting ready time. I don’t need a lot of time at receptions. Since it was a short day, I knew I would be photographing the dress being closed and that was about it. I made sure to get plenty of “aftermath” photos in both prep rooms.
Since everyone was prepared and the first look was complete, we knocked out as many formal photos as we could prior to the ceremony. As I said, they only had me for 5 hours which meant I had to work quickly. We completed bridal party ahead of the ceremony and a few family photos. Most couples have the idea that all family photos will be done ahead. In actuality, hardly any family is present and ready at the chosen time. Therefore, family photos are pushed to after the ceremony. This is often more difficult because family members stray from the ceremony location in search of cocktails and appetizers. Herding cats is a term that comes to mind at nearly all wedding. Either way, I deal with it!
This room is great for a small to medium wedding reception. It is square and has two sets or entry doors which open to the large western hallway in the venue. The southern end has a long head table with 6 person round tables scattered throughout. There is a dedicated cake table at the north west corner. The DJ placed himself at the north end of the room, centered by the dance floor. The dance floor was good enough for 15-20 people to comfortably dance.
I am always interested in the wedding preparation suites “bridal suites” or “groom’s room” at every venue. Having photographed over 250 weddings since 2007, I can be critical of these types of rooms. I have zero notes for The Reverie. Both prep rooms were large, with the bride’s space having much more room. The bridal suite was bright, white, and filled with mirrors. I believe there were even small refrigerators for the bridal party. The groom’s suite was smaller and darker but perfectly fine for 5-10 men at a time. The A/C seemed good on this day which is something that couples often don’t take into account.
