Gatherings On The Green Weddings

Gatherings On The Green in Lewisberg, Ohio is a small wedding and event venue just east of Brookville, Ohio. This property is large, but the reception space is small. It is great for a small wedding or event. It has all the basic amenities you’d expect at a venue, just at a reduced size. Was my first wedding photography experience at Gatherings On The Green successful? Absolutely! Every had a great wedding day and a very fun reception.

Getting Ready Space

The getting ready space at Gatherings is very small. This was to be expected considering the overall size of the venue. In the eastern hallway ared the restrooms and a small square room with a window. On this day, the room was packed with the bride, hair and makeup artist, and several bridesmaids. The remaining bridesmaids took over both restrooms due to the lack of space. The window was large and provided greatly-needed natural light, so this was a positive. There were no other getting ready spaces here.

I suggest getting ready at a hotel on at someone’s home prior to arriving at this venue. Instead, use this small room as a staging area for wedding supplies and personal items.

Ceremony Location

Gatherings’ ceremony location is located across the parking lot to the south. It is an open field behind the utility barn and is bordered by a large, beautiful pond. The wedding coordinator set up chairs facing a pergola which would be the centerpiece of the ceremony spot. There were planters and large whispy white decorative sheets hanging from the pergola.

There were three issues with this ceremony location, but it is up to you if you are ok with them. First, the background of the ceremony was westbound I-70. Throughout the ceremony and formal photos, semis were seen driving by. I removed all of them from the photos, but it may be something for you to consider. Second, there is no shade. This was a hot summer day in full sun. Third, it was very windy and caused the wispy sheets to blow uncontrollably during the formal photos and ceremony. Overall, everyone at this wedding was happy, so that was great.

I would suggest having your ceremony elsewhere if you are concerned about weather. There is no quick way to get anyone inside in the event of lightning or rain. Sure, everyone can go inside the venue, but it can take a few minutes to walk to. Keep in mine sun and rain as well. You will be vulnerable to weather conditions here.

Reception Location

Upon arriving at Gatherings, you see a small building with a long covered porch. The porch reminded me of cracker barrel with a dozen or so rocking chairs and tables. Inside you find the restrooms and getting ready area to the right. The bar is directly in front of you and is a decent size. To the left is the reception area with enough room for 10 tables, the DJ, and a small dance floor. Just beyond the bar and behind the barn door is the catering area. This is a small room with plenty of natural light and a refrigerator. Tables for the catering are also present in this room.

While it is nice to have a refrigerator, it is never big enough for a wedding day. Several hours prior to the reception, the family filled it with beer. No one ever seems to take into account how long it takes for things to get cool. Want a successful day with ice cold drinks? Drinks should be pre-cooled off-site and brought on site as early as possible. Use coolers if needed. Don’t wait until 2 hours before the party to ice down your drinks.

Other Facilities

The only other usable space at this wedding venue is the open air shelter. This is located on the north side of the reception hall. It can be used for seating, games, dinner, and more. On this day, it was only used for a few corn hole games during the reception. There is a large utility barn stuffed with rentable wedding gear such as tables and chairs. This is not accessible to the guests.

If you are looking for a perfectly nice, small wedding reception venue near Dayton, Ohio, this could be it. It is perfectly nice and is easy to access from Interstate 70. A 25 minute drive from Dayton and a 20 minute drive from Indiana makes this easy accessible. Close to the venue is downtown Brookville, Ohio which has restaurants and gas stations. I believe there may be a hotel close by as well.
