On a hot sunny day in May 2018, I was granted legal access to photograph what remains of the abandoned Americana Amusement Park / LeSourdesville Lake in Monroe, Ohio. The property is soon to become Monroe Bicentennial Commons! There are many buildings that remain on this river-side property, and they were great to photograph. The City of Monroe plans to tear down some buildings, leave others, and reuse benches, walkways, trash cans, picnic tables, and more as part of their plans for future green space for the community. I want to thank the City of Monroe for this opportunity. I have waited patiently for many years to get this opportunity. It was more exciting than I could have imagined! I never thought I would get to photograph an abandoned amusement park.
As part of a current two-year photo project, I had the opportunity to photograph The Loft Theatre and Metropolitan Arts Center in Dayton, Ohio. In the 1980s or 1990s, this became the center of the Dayton performing arts scene. It still is today! My history with it came when it was the rehearsal space for two Muse Machines musicals I participated in during high school.
After months of preparation and scheduling, I was finally ready to photograph Cincinnati Music Hall and Taft Theatre in downtown Cincinnati. These two iconic buildings downtown were the final two elusive theaters in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus that I have not photographed. However, that changed today! These interior photos of Taft Theatre were taken in 2018. I was able to take photos from the stage as well as the auditorium. Capturing onstage photos in these cool performance venues is one of the most thrilling things I do.
I have created a new Dayton photography blog series titled “Dayton Icon Photo,” and this one features the Victoria Theatre Association’s Schuster Center as of 2017. Due to my past work, I was able to create Schuster Center exclusive behind the scenes photos (again)! Accessing The Schuster Center Exclusive Behind The Scenes In 2017 I […]

In December 2017, I legally photographed the Cincinnati Memorial Hall OTR in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. OTR Cincinnati Memorial Hall is booked by Cincinnati’s 3CDC and is beautiful, inside and out. These photos are interior photos of this historic sister venue to Cincinnati’s Music Hall. In fact, it sits next to Music Hall in Washington Park. See more commercial photography here.
In 2017 I had the opportunity to photograph the historic Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio. This is part one of a four-part series of images of this Dayton institution. Below are photos of the grandstands and horse racing track that is no longer in use. Everything is still very well maintained, and hopefully, the University of Dayton and Premier Health treat the property well.
