Billy Joel Concert At Great American Ball Park Cincinnati

As a professional concert photographer in Ohio, I love to shoot at new venues. I recently had the opportunity to photograph Billy Joel at Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds. For this show, I was shooting for Cincinnati CitBeat one of two publications that I work for. The night turned out great but our situation was less than stellar.

We were escorted to a staging area along the third baseline during the pre-concert routine. About 30 minutes before the show we make our way to left-center field in preparation for the show. l took a few minutes down on the field to look around the stadium. I have been attending MLB baseball games here and at Riverfront Stadium since I was little. I was marveling that I was now one of 8 photographers in a restricted area in center field.

Difficulty At The Billy Joel Concert

The difficulty tonight was that we were extreme stage right, feet on the field. Billy Joel was on an 8-10 foot high stage, primarily facing stage left. This combination of circumstances made it difficult for any of us to see Billy over the large stage and then over his beautiful piano. It was still a great experience.
