2024 was the year of concerts for me. Not only did I photograph a whole bunch of really big names in music, I also attended concerts as a fan. Concerts such as The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Billie Eilish, Metallica, and of course Taylor Swift were only a few I went to. As a concert photographer, I got to shoot Green Day, Jason Isbell, Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. Taylor Swift Indianapolis was the highlight.
The Taylor Swift concert I attended was in Indianapolis on November 2, 2024. It was the Saturday night show, the second of three Eras Tour show in Indy. It was the second to last show ever of the era’s tour in the United States, and it was amazing. This was the third Eras Tour show that I’ve seen of with the first being Nashville in May, 2023 and the second June, 2023 in Cincinnati.
It was fantastic, fun, exhilarating, and completely different from the first two shows. She included the new “Tortured Poets Department” set since it was released this year. Several songs were removed to make room for this set list, and it was absolutely amazing. The new set pieces and new choreography to go along with the songs were even better seeing it in concert than I had anticipated.
Lucas Oil Stadium is a great place to see a concert. First, it is indoor. You never need to worry about the rain or the weather like the past two Eras Tour shows we saw. The Nashville show was postponed by five hours due to severe thunderstorms. The Cincinnati show had to be moved up an hour because of the impending thunderstorms. The storms happened to start within half an hour after the end of the concert. So this time there was no reason to worry about a weather delay. It was 66 and sunny, and of course, the show was inside.
The show was just absolutely perfect, a perfect day for Taylor Swift period. We spent a lot of time in downtown Indie, going to the convention center, visiting the three hour merchandise line, and deciding that was too long to wait just to get a T-shirt. The most fun was seeing all the people out and about at bars and restaurants. The city ambassadors made way finding easy. One of my favorite things in Indy was the 30+ story JW Mariott that had a giant Taylor Swift plastered to the east side of the hotel looking at downtown. It was just a great way to end our Taylor Swift Eras Tour trifecta.
