Once or twice per year a soon-to-be-engaged client hires me photograph a marriage proposal. My first proposal for 2024 took place on the campus of the University of Dayton. Having worked on campus for 14 years, a UD marriage proposal is extra special.
The groom-to-be shared his location with me about an hour before the proposal start time. I was on campus watching my phone to see where he was. As he approached campus, I hid behind an evergreen tree near the library. Basically, I pretended to photograph the area in case they spotted me. I saw them walk in front of St. Mary’s Hall on a short walk around campus. After they were out of sight, I set up two video cameras to capture the proposal. Finally, I then returned to hiding.
The couple approached the gazebo behind Albert Emanuel Hall. I started photographing from the tree. They entered the gazebo and began to talk. During this time, my video cameras were capturing the entire thing. I ran up to photograph the proposal as he got down on one knee. Afterward, the bride-to-be soaked up the moment after glancing at me momentarily. I took a ton of photos to ensure I would capture the moment. After she said “Yes!” they hugged for a few moments. After a few minutes alone, we spent an hour creating true engagement photos around UD.
