Ending a great 2023 with an engagement session in Dayton’s Oregon District was awesome. This couple contacted me a few weeks ahead of time to schedule my final photography session of the year. We met at Salar on Fifth Street on a freezing cold evening 30 minutes before sunset. As we started the session it began to snow lightly which you can see in some of the photos below. So as the snow came down, I began to photograph this couple.

Every once in a while I get to photograph a wonderful couple in a place that I have never been. I am always delighted when this happens and enjoy the on-the-fly thinking and problem solving. In late Autumn 2023, I had such an occasion and photographed a beautiful backyard engagement session in Kettering Ohio.

Potential clients often ask me what my favorite location to photograph couples is. For years, it has been the Oregon District which is Fifth Street just east of Patterson Boulevard in downtown Dayton, Ohio. This newly engaged couple decided to use this uniquely Dayton location. As we started the session, we got a pleasant surprise from the owner of the Oregon Express bar and restaurant.

Look no further than Dayton Grotto Gardens, a hidden gem of an engagement photo location just five minutes from downtown Dayton. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this enchanting garden offers a peaceful and underused location to have your engagement session.

In April 2023 I was honored to photograph my first even Hindu engagement ceremony and related activities. This beautiful event took place at the Hindu Temple of Dayton near the Mall At Fairfield Commons. I had never photographed anything like this before, so I was really excited. Normally, when it comes to engagement sessions, the couple is already officially engaged.

Each year I get a handful of engagement session inquiries outside of my wedding inquiries. Usually these are couples who are getting married in other states but live in the Dayton, Ohio area. In May 2023, this groom-to-be booked me to capture their engagement session. Initially it was set for Glen Helen Nature Preserve but it was later changed to downtown Dayton.

This fantastic Dayton couple had a really fun Dayton engagement session with me in the Oregon District and Deeds Point MetroPark. This engagement shoot started with some awesome Dayton-centric backdrops and ended at the park where the rivers meet near downtown. While I am have taken thousands of photos in the historic neighbhood bordered by State Route 35 on the south, I try hard. I tend to make a half mile loop down different streets. This is to give everyone a unique session with backgrounds that others don’t have. Of course, there are some places such as Brim, that I use every time. Brim is the bright yellow hat store on Fifth Street.

Cox Arboretum engagement photos are always beautiful and enjoyable. This newly engaged couple was willing to try so many poses and locations at Dayton’s most popular park. A lot of laughter occurred, which made the photos so much better. I always love the natural expression and emotions that couples bring out in each other.

In June 2022 I connected with this fun young couple. They wanted pregnancy announcements and engagement-style photos at Miami County’s Charleston Falls Preserve. We had a great time creating the most unique and fun-filled engagement photos I’ve ever taken at Charleston Falls.

On one of the windiest days of 2022 in Dayton, Ohio, I photographed this newly engaged couple at Deeds Point MetroPark and the Oregon District. As an engagement photographer in Dayton, I have photographed at both locations many times. Deeds Point is beautiful and overlooks downtown Dayton Ohio and the Great Miami Riverway. We were planning to split our time between these two Dayton engagement locations, but due to the wind, we spent more time in the historic Oregon District. This couple was one of the most fun couples I have photographed, and I wish I was also photographing their wedding.
