It has been a couple of years since I last photographed a wedding at Cedar Springs Pavilion in Tipp City Ohio. The uniqueness of this venue makes it one of my favorites. Of all the places I photograph, the indoor-outdoor nature of Cedar Springs is the best. On nice days, the entire reception space is open-air. On windier and cooler days, they can drop screens along the outside pillars to help cut down on wind and keep the venue warmer. This is the only venue I have visited that has this feature.
At the August 2024 wedding, only the westernmost windscreens were down, creating a comfortable reception. The north and south screens were up and provided views of the gorgeous pond and amazing summer sunset. I would imagine that if the wedding couple wanted the screens down to cut down on bugs, the venue would permit this.
The grounds are unique as well. To the south of the reception building is a large pond and a fountain. Beyond this is a heavily wooded area that can be used for wedding photos with the wedding couple. There is a beautiful decorative pergola on the south side of the pond that can be used to frame the couple with the reception building behind. To the north of the building is a pollinator field, a couples swing, and a fountain in the field. Combining these features with an amazing sunset makes for some unforgettable wedding photos.
I photograph weddings all over Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus. When photographing in Dayton, the majority of my weddings are central to downtown or south of town. There are a bunch of wedding venues in Centerville, Bellbrook, Miamisburg, and more. Wedding venues north of downtown are few, but these venues always have a unique characteristic. The weddings I do at the northern Miami Valley are often the most relaxed. I can’t figure out why, but it seems like these venues have a certain vibe. Maybe it is because they are used and abused on a daily or weekly basis. Maybe the venues are run differently. Either way, I really enjoy weddings when they are north of Dayton wedding venues.
On a side note, I am an aviation photographer, and planes are landing over this venue every day. I love this aspect of this venue.
