I am 154 weddings into my Dayton and Cincinnati photography career, and Saturday was my first time photographing a Canyon Run Ranch wedding. I cannot believe what an amazing Dayton area wedding and reception venue Canyon Run Ranch is.
This couple – two brides – was a dream couple with which to work. Both ladies were completely laid back and were up for every photographic idea I had for them. We spent time at the Canyon Run waterfall as well as time all over the ranch. I could not have asked for a more pleasant wedding day, and I am incredibly proud to be a gay-friendly wedding photographer in Dayton and Cincinnati. Love is love.
When I arrived 30 minutes north of Dayton International Airport, I drove past a historic home and manicured lawn. Signs clearly directed me where to park. Before heading to the far lot beyond the barns and goat pen, I stopped and said aloud, “This is going to be an amazing place to photograph a wedding!”
Walking from the lot to the event barn, I noticed endless photo opportunities. The 1850s barn features an upper level with a bar, dance floor, tables, chairs, photo booth, and DJ area. Thousands of white lights cover the rafters and chandeliers. The lower level, once animal stalls, now holds changing rooms and a cozy seating area with a second bar for guests.

Outside the barn, a walkway leads to a fire pit and seating area. A nearby sign directs guests a quarter mile up the hill to the ceremony site. I didn’t know what to expect as I climbed the steep path, but at the top, I found a 10-acre field with a trail leading to a wooded peninsula surrounded by thousands of trees. Handmade wooden and steel benches and a striking ceremony arch—reminiscent of the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones—complete the stunning setting.
Back at the fire pit, I visited the property owners’ home, where the wedding suite is located. The prep area dates to around 1900, possibly earlier. Upstairs, the suite features mirrors, a vanity, plush furniture, and a stained-glass window.
Note: Two 6-person golf carts are used to transport wedding guests to and from the wedding ceremony location.

All of this made for one of the best wedding venues in the entire Dayton, Ohio area. I look forward to photographing so many more Dayton weddings at this rustic-chic barn wedding. It is a must-see if you are searching for available wedding venues. Dayton wedding photographers will love this venue. Brides and grooms will find this to be one of the most affordable barn wedding venues in Ohio. Since this place is rather new, future upgrades will make this property truly exceptional!

“We absolutely loved Kevin and the pictures he took of our wedding, he also did our engagement pictures and they turned out great! As a lesbian couple I was nervous about finding the perfect people for our wedding. He made us super comfortable and I didn’t even think about it on our special day. I can’t get over how well these pictures turned out!! It will be one of the most memorable days of my life and he captured every detail from the venue, to flowers, guests and decor. Thanks again Kevin!!” – Tess C.
One of the best weddings in my career took place at Canyon Run Ranch in Pleasant Hill, Ohio. After the stunning same-sex wedding, I submitted this LGBTQ Ohio barn wedding to a great wedding publication called Zola.com. Check out the link below to see the published wedding, and below that is my write-up of this great Ohio wedding and reception just north of Dayton, Ohio. This wedding was the one to get my Dayton wedding photography featured and published somewhere.
