On the first day of autumn, I photographed my 241st wedding and my first Little Art Theatre wedding. Upon walking in, the lobby was set up the same way it would be for a movie showing. There was an additional table full of M&M’s and popcorn for the wedding guests. In the movie poster displays were three bride-made movie posters featuring the bride and groom. They were “Face Off,” “Pride And Prejudice,” and “Labyrinth.”
Prior to the wedding, the couple showed a 30-minute slideshow of their lives up to that point. As the guests took their seats in the theater, they could watch the photos flip by. The wedding then took place on the stage with WYSO’s Rev Cool officiating. The lighting was not the best, but I did the best I could with the house lights. After the ceremony, we did a large group photo before heading outside for smaller group photos. Most of the remaining group shots were done under the Little Art marquee which displayed the names of the wedding couple. This was their choice of location.
Another first for this wedding was the reception at the Mills Park Hotel. The small banquet center on the southeast side of the hotel was perfect for this intimate wedding reception. Once parked in the back parking lot, you enter the hotel and go to the left. The banquet center is down the hallway. It features room for maybe 75 guests, a buffet, and a bar. The bar area is a designated space with plenty of room for two bartenders. The buffet area doubled as the dance floor after dinner. In one corner of the room there is enough room for a DJ and a photo booth.
The public areas of the hotel can be used for wedding photos. The large first-floor porch is perfect for photos with the city in the background. Room 207 upstairs was a great suite for getting ready and had full access to the upstairs balcony. I used the main staircase by the back entrance to create photos of the couple. The large chandelier upstairs also made a great place to frame the couple for some unique wedding portraits.
