The only small downfall of this venue is shot summer weddings with large wedding groups.
Since my first wedding photography experience at Canopy Creek years ago, I have enjoyed shooting there. You should choose this Dayton wedding venue if you want a barn-themed wedding with all the first-class amenities and air conditioning of a reception hall. Restrooms, bar areas, bridal prep areas, and more make this purpose-built venue a great choice.
There are two drawbacks to this venue. First, air conditioning can be an issue on hot summer days. While their HVAC is good, the main entrance and exit have no barrier keeping the hot air out. This combined with the draw of the awesome outdoor patio means people will be frequently going in and out. So, the A/C may not be able to keep up. Just be prepared for it to be a little warm inside on hot days. This exit is also right next to the bar, so it becomes a congested area.
The other drawback is the getting ready areas. The first area, normally reserved for the bride in traditional m/f weddings, is in the main venue upstairs. It is semi-private and not the best in the area. There is room for maybe 6 people comfortably. The groom’s suite in traditional m/f weddings is in the horse barn. It is a tiny room best suited for a maximum of three normal-sized men. I have been here with 6 taller men, and there is no room to move. More about that is below.
This wedding venue provides a modern barn wedding experience for couples getting married between Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio. It has a hilly property, a creek, and a pond, making it different than most similar properties. Your guests will enjoy an indoor-outdoor reception, rain or shine. While ceremonies are at the creek, you can’t really see the water. If you are looking for a water-side wedding, seek out a venue with a large creek or river.
The expanded outdoor veranda looking west over the pond is a good addition to this property. It can be used as a gathering area, cocktail hour location, or outdoor seating. Only part is shaded, so on sunny days, it can get hot. In the evening, the sun will be beating down on this since it is on the west side of the venue. The best thing about this is the view of the sunsets over the hills of the property.
There are three wedding day prep areas on the property. First is the groom’s suite located in the northeast corner of the horse barn. Yes, they have two horses. The room is small with a couch, table, television, and an on-the-wall air conditioner. Second, is the hair and makeup loft in the main venue’s party barn. This area has three stations and a couch. It can get warm upstairs, so bring your own fans. Third is the dressing room behind the bar. Also, it is relatively small, and the room can become overloaded with bags and other wedding necessities.
Weddings can range from shabby-chic to over-the-top class. It is up to you, the bride and groom, to make this wedding venue come alive with your own ideas and vision. The giant barn, ample parking, large pond, sweeping vistas, and quaint wedding ceremony area near the creek make this a must-do wedding photography venue in Dayton for all Dayton wedding photographers.
You can’t go wrong with this well-run Dayton and Cincinnati area wedding venue. Wedding photography in Dayton Ohio is so much fun especially when you choose such great wedding venues! I highly recommend this farm for weddings and receptions! This Dayton photographer loves this place which has only improved over the years.
