Today I photographed a beautiful laid-back wedding at Bergamo in Dayton, Ohio. I want to thank the couple, for a great day. Everything was perfect as far as photography was concerned. The wedding took place at Bergamo Center (Marianist) and the reception was at The Presidential Banquet Center where Kohler Catering delivered a good meal as always.
As many wedding photographers know, photographing weddings and receptions at the same venue may become tedious over time. At The Presidential in Kettering, Ohio, the service is excellent and each event is different. Rarely do I get to do a wedding at Bergamo, so that was a nice change as well. The sanctuary is somewhat pie-shaped and draped in pastel colors. I think it looks like a great place for an Easter mass.
This couple was older and works at UD in a different department that I do. I didn’t have to do many of the traditional things surrounding the day. Older wedding couples are usually more chill and have often been married before. It is a been-there-done-that mentality. They are just excited to be marrying their partner. It was a shared ceremony. After that, we went to a traditional reception at one of Dayton’s original wedding and party halls.
The Presidential has ample parking and 4 or so banquet rooms. The couple of rooms by the front door are rather small and are good for intimate receptions. The two rooms at the back are gigantic banquet rooms and are good for medium to large weddings. I have never had a bad experience at The Presidential.
As a kid, I hated going to Bergamo. My sister played volleyball and competed in several tournaments there, so I spent a lot of time in that place. When I landed my first wedding photography job in Bergamo, I laughed. I was getting paid to do something I love in a place I once dreaded. This kind of turnaround has happened many times with parks, too. I avoided nature parks, but now I regularly shoot paid engagement sessions in them.
