Creativity Is What Drives This Wedding Photographer To Great Success

In October 2006, my wife suggested I rent a film SLR camera to photograph three weddings in three weeks as a guest.  Upon developing the film from these three weddings, I decided that I wanted to start my own photography business.  In January 2007, I founded Kevin Lush Photography based in Dayton, Ohio.  Having zero experience as a wedding photographer, I listed my services for free on Craigslist. I was ready to show clients why creativity is what drives this wedding photographer.

Creativity Is What Drives This Wedding Photographer – Getting Started

Shortly after the initial listing, I was contacted by Julie B. who eventually hired me to photograph her wedding on June 30, 2007.  I prepared for the wedding by purchasing the basic digital equipment needed for a wedding which included a Nikon SB-600, a Nikon d80 camera, and a kit lens.  Additionally, I rented studio lights for this June wedding which was in northeast Indiana.

June 30th came quickly, and my wife and I made our way to the small farm town two hours from home.  We walked into this hodgepodge of buildings forming the church. The walls were white and the carpet was bright red.  As we walked in, I thought to myself “Why am I doing this?”  I placed my studio lights in the sanctuary and went to the wedding prep area. Walking into the room, I snapped a beautiful shot of the bride sitting on the floor. She was looking at herself in the mirror.  At that very moment, I was overcome with confidence and all doubt was gone.  Afterward, she told me how much she loved the photos! Thankfully, not a single time at any of my 143 weddings have I ever been nervous or doubted myself.
