A Fantastic Golf Course Wedding

As a Dayton wedding photographer, I am always looking for great Dayton-area wedding venues like Sugar Valley Golf Club. I had visited the week before the wedding to check out the venue. As an event was taking place in the ballroom, I was unable see the reception area. So, when I showed up for the wedding, I was blown away. The reception area was large and well lit from three sides of doors and windows. On this day the wedding and reception would take place in the same room. Between the two, everyone was ushered outside for cocktail hour.

If you are getting married in the Dayton area and looking for a golf course vibe, Sugar Valley is a great choice. The size of the wedding facilities combined with the beauty of the course make this place amazing.

The Getting Ready House & Room

Often at weddings, the getting ready area is overlooked and way too small. The “bridal suite” at Sugar Valley was an entire house on the south side of the property. The dining room, the main place the bride and bridesmaids set up for the day, was gigantic. There was enough room for hair and makeup, six bridesmaids, moms, and the bride. The dress and steamer were situated in an upstairs room. For dress photos, I decided to use the natural light on the screened in porch.

In the foyer of the house there was enough room my equipment and for extra wedding supplies. The air conditioning was decent for the hot day.

The guys got ready in the basement of the Sugar Valley Golf Club clubhouse. There is a golf simulator bay and an entertainment room next door. High top tables, a couch, and a large television. The room for the groom and groomsmen was considerably smaller, but not having to do hair and makeup saves a lot of space. On this wedding day, the guys spent most of the pre-wedding time outside.

The Ballroom / Wedding Reception Area AtSugar Valley Golf Club

The wedding reception area was large enough for all the guests, round tables, and the buffet. At the back of the room was a built in bar window. At the front corner, for this wedding at least, was a large DJ area. Even with all the going on, there was still plenty of room for dancing. There are plenty of restrooms, ample air conditioning, and a two decks for people to hang out on. This was a very pleasant and pretty Dayton area wedding venue. I can’t wait to photograph here again!

Golf Course Photography Locations

As far as wedding photography on a golf course goes, there were two locations we were permitted to use. The first was a grassy area between the course, the clubhouse, and the getting ready house. I timed it correctly to photograph everyone in the shade under a tree. Had we waited any longer, everyone would have been in direct sun. For the wedding couple portraits, we were escorted via golf car to the top of the hill where two tee boxes were available for use. I used both the one facing down hill and the one that was flatter. Each had its own vision in my mind, and I was able to execute those photos perfectly. As far as golf course weddings go, this was one of the most beautiful in the area. I highly recommend Sugar Valley Golf Club.
