U.S. Navy Blue Angels At The Dayton Air Show In Dayton Ohio

Every year I buy a photo pass for the Dayton Air Show. This allows entry into the Air Show grounds 2 hours before the general public. This year, I added a photo pit pass which provides flight line seats and a tent for shade. The photo pass was worth every penny, and the weather couldn’t have been any better. Below are photos of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team. These magnificent F-18 Super Hornets are awe-inspiring. Let’s look at the Blue Angels At The Dayton Air Show early in the morning.

In the morning I photographed these stationary F-18s. Only a handful of people were on the air showgrounds, so there was no one in the aviation photos. These are the best static aviation photos I have ever created. The symmetry of the aircraft with the sun coming up through the clouds was amazing. I had to stop myself from photographing even more because I was just going to duplicate what I already had.

Photographing US Navy Blue Angels

s a lifelong aviation enthusiast, few experiences compare to watching the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and their F-18 Super Hornets perform at my home airport. In 2024, they headlined the CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show at Dayton International Airport, just minutes from where I live. Growing up so close to the airport, attending and being part of the air show has always been a tradition of mine.

In 2023, I honed my photography skills by capturing the Air Force Thunderbirds in action. I spent countless hours watching YouTube tutorials and practicing airplane photography, striving to capture unique shots that others might overlook. So when the Blue Angels came to town this year, I felt ready to rise to the challenge.

I attended the show on Sunday with a special access pass, which allowed me to photograph the Blue Angels’ static displays and their breathtaking flight demonstrations. Throughout the day, I also captured images of various other aircraft, both on the ground and in the air. But the highlight, without question, was the Blue Angels.

F-18 Super Hornets & Routines

Having followed their routines for years, I knew exactly what to expect—their angles, formations, and signature moments like turning on the smoke. This preparation paid off. I positioned myself perfectly to capture the shots of the US Navy Blue Angels I envisioned. From symmetrical formations to dynamic turns, I finally achieved aviation photos that rival those of top photographers. I can’t get enough of the power from these massive jet engines.

The 2024 Dayton Air Show provided the perfect conditions: stunning cloud formations and ideal lighting that elevated every shot. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The photos reflect the dedication and passion I’ve poured into aviation photography, and they serve as a lasting reminder of an unforgettable day. Later in 2024, I photographed them again at the Chicago Air and Water Show.
