Cowan Lake Wilmington And Yellow Springs Ohio Engagement Photos

One of my favorite engagement sessions I’ve ever done is a two hour engagement session that took place in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Cowan Lake State Park in Wilmington, Ohio during 2024. This great same-sex engagement session, was filled with laughter, stories, a dogs. They loved hearing about my 2023 Taylor Swift photography experience at PayCor Stadium in Cincinnati. We bonded heavily over Taylor Swift and took 10 minutes out of the photography session, just to talk to Taylor.

Yellow Springs Engagement

We started off in Yellow Springs, photographing, up and down the main street. I captured some cool eclectic pictures in the coffee shop, on a metal staircase, and in front of some of the colorful buildings. It was a really good time. they loved that I had just done two weddings in Yellow Springs, as I was very familiar with downtown. In addition to that, I’ve been to the street fair many times and had a good knowledge of the city. So, I love photographing there, it’s easy. All the pictures are unique, colorful, and fun.

Cowan Lake State Park Wilmington Ohio

After Yellow Springs, we drove an hour south for the final set of engagement photos. I included the drive time in their package because they really wanted to go. We drove to Cowan Lake State Park in Wilmington. They have a specific spot where they got engaged and it is lakeside dock. There is a small boat launch near it.

We spent roughly an hour, photographing in this beautiful area. We did many pictures on the dock with the fall foliage in the background and the lake in between. Several cool photo opportunities on the beach popped up as well. They brought two of their dogs, so we photographed with the dogs without the dogs. They wanted to recreate the engagement as well.

Cowan Lake is a pretty large lake for Ohio. Small motor boats and sailboats are permitted. No large motorboats were on the lake when we were there. It was a long drive, but the photos were worth it. I love love, love, love, love, love the photo of the couple, embracing on the dock. I left a large swath of negative space on the left side to draw your eye directly to the couple. That is one of my favorite engagement pictures ever.

I could tell that these two were really in love. They were so giggly, fun, and animated. I love when clients are p for anything.
