A concert photographer’s rite of passage is to photograph the rock and roll band, KISS. Recently, I got my chance thanks to one of two great Cincinnati publications that I shoot for. This concert was at Wright State University’s E.J. Nutter Center in Dayton Ohio.

In October 2023 The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) put on a very energetic show to a sold-out crowd at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center. October is late for an outdoor show, so everyone was in jackets which was weird but still fun. The original show was scheduled for one of the hottest days of the year in July I think. Right before the show, it got postponed due to illness. I was thankful because it was way too hot to be seeing an outdoor show. Emily, Marty, and Natalie played a long concert filled with their best hits. It was the best I’ve seen them out of the 5 times so far.

I photographed the Andrew J Brady Music Center several times in Cincinnati Ohio. This incredible indoor and outdoor live music venue sits between Paycor Stadium and Great American Ball Park as part of The Banks. The indoor concert venue which has outstanding acoustics, holds 4000 people. The ICON Festival Stage outside facing east holds 7000 people standing only.

As a professional concert photographer in Ohio, I love to shoot at new venues. I recently had the opportunity to photograph Billy Joel at Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds. For this show, I was shooting for Cincinnati CitBeat one of two publications that I work for. The night turned out great but our situation was less than stellar.

In 2022 I requested to photograph Garth Brooks at PayCor Stadium, formerly Paul Brown Stadium. Months went by with me as the backup photographer for Cincinnati CityBeat. I hadn’t requested the show in time. 24 hours before the show, I got a call from my credentialing contact saying the other photographer was sick. I jumped on the opportunity to photograph arguably the biggest name ever in music.

As a professional concert photographer, I try to shoot the shows of the biggest stars in music. When I saw Celine Dion was coming to town, I decided to request the show. This October 2019 show was at U.S. Bank Center (now Heritage Bank Center) in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was shooting for one of my two publications based in Cincy.

In May 2019, a series of tornadoes struck various areas of Dayton, Ohio. The hardest-hit areas were Trotwood and Harrison Township. One of the largest structures to sustain damage was Hara Arena, the event and concert venue in Trotwood, Ohio. Hara, to many, was the hottest concert and event venue in Dayton for decades. It […]

Alan Jackson began his 2020 world tour at Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center on January 10, 2020. This decades-old area was formerly U.S. Bank Arena, FirstStar Center, The Crown, and Riverfront Coliseum. Steel Blossoms, a house band at Jackson’s Nashville bar opened the show was Steel Blossoms. Tenille Townes was the next opener and played a fantastic set that was lively and entertaining. Alan Jackson was amazing and came out playing to the sold-out audience. During one song, he put down the guitar to throw t-shirts to the crowd.

Slayer lit up the stage at Nationwide Arena, on November 12, 2019.  This was the wildest concert I have photographed in my 5 years as a Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus concert photographer.  There were numerous pyrotechnics and dozens of crowd surfers. Check out more concert photography here.

February 2, 1993, was my very first concert which was Metallica in the front row at E.J. Nutter Center. On January 30, 2019, I was able to photograph Metallica for CityBeat. It was an honor, and it was amazing!
