In March 2023 I photographed Blake Shelton in concert for Cincinnati CityBeat, an excellent Cincy publication. I have been photographing concerts for them for years, and I’ve seen some great performances. Some from artists that I love and some from artists I don’t. In. this instance, I love a few of his songs but didn’t expect to enjoy the concert as much as I did. I know his music but was unsure about my expectations.
He put on a great show at Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center. Jackson Dean and Carly Pearce were the supporting acts. When he came up, I was taken with the stage design. There was a typical arena end stage that was decorated with some great neon signs. The stage jutted out about halfway across the area and came to a point, shaped like a diamond, at the end. All along this diamond was a bar or ledge very much like you’d see in one of his Ole Red bar/restaurant locations. There were high-top chairs where a select few special people had seats. The stage was one of the most incredible concert stages I have ever seen.
