On a fall 2018 afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was downtown Louisville itself. Below are images of some interesting architecture that caught my eye while exploring Louisville. I didn’t set out to photograph a specific building or location. Wandering around cities doing real-time discovery of things is so much fun for me.
If you have a few hours free in Louisville, take some time to walk around. Start on the main “museum row” downtown. There are so many unique buildings, interesting angles, and historic properties. I chose to go down a few north-south streets as well. This would be a great city to photograph newly engaged couples for the engagement sessions. I would also love to photograph weddings in downtown Louisville!
One of my goals is to photograph a Louisville engagement session, preferably including bourbon. Although I do not drink, I love the bourbon culture that envelops Louisville. There are several amazing bourbon distilleries, breweries, and unique buildings. Call or email me if you’d like me to be your photographer! It is an easy 2.5-hour drive for me. Let’s work together to make your day great! I am a Dayton Ohio based travel photographer.

On a fall 2018 afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was 4th Street Live Louisville, downtown Louisville’s entertainment district. This entertainment district is just a few blocks south of “Museum Row” also known as Main Street. There are numerous restaurants, an outdoor live music stage, bowling, and more! Although it was a Tuesday afternoon when I visited, there were still people around. I am sure that on evenings and weekends, this is the place to be, especially for tourists! Make sure to check out the Hard Rock Cafe and its giant neon guitar.
Located in the heart of downtown are restaurants and taverns, a Gordon Biersch restaurant, the Muhammad Ali Center (right on the Ohio River), and many other entertainment venues. You could spend a weekend or two just trying out each of these places. If you throw in the Louisville Slugger Museum and all the bourbon distilleries, you can call this an entertainment destination. Howl At The Moon Saloon and the live music concert series during the summer would make this even more fun.

Just to the east of downtown is the Angels’s Envy bourbon distillery, the Lynn Family Stadium (Louisville City FC soccer), and the Louisville Slugger field/ball park. Various historical sites litter the area, although I have not had time to photograph any yet. Check out GoToLouisville.com for all the tourist information about this city.

This was a last-minute trip, so I did not have time to plan what I wanted to do. The night before I made a quick list of some areas of downtown to check out. These included venues, skyscrapers, and a park. There were a few places that allowed me inside to photograph. Others, like the Palace Theatre, were not open. I have a great portfolio of buildings I have photographed, and I’m always ready to share it with people. This is usually good enough to get me into a new building.

Fourth Street Live Photos In Downtown Louisville Kentucky
Beautiful Theatre Circa 1928 In Downtown Louisville Kentucky

In 2018, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was The Louisville Palace theater on Fourth Street just south of Fourth Street Live. Below are photos of this beautiful theater circa 1928 that has a beautiful and colorful facade. I was unable to photograph inside the theater due to a timing issue, but the outside was so beautiful that it made up for not seeing the inside.

On a future trip downtown, I would like to work with the management to photograph the interior of this building. With any theater, I like getting on stage and photographing from the stage into the audience. My signature shot at other venues I have photographed is shooting straight up into the ropes that control the scrims on stage. One day I will get the opportunity.

The Louisville Palace is an extraordinary architectural gem situated in the heart of downtown Louisville, Kentucky on the northwest side. With its rich history and timeless elegance, the Louisville Palace stands as a truly remarkable wedding venue.
This majestic theater was originally built in 1928 and styled after the most opulent European palaces of the time. Its stunning Spanish Baroque exterior, adorned with intricate detailing and ornate sculptures, is a sight to behold. Every corner of this building exudes a sense of grandeur and old-world charm. While this is not my aesthetic, it is still beautiful.
The Louisville Palace offers not only a captivating ceremony location but also a truly unforgettable reception space. The mezzanine level, with its breathtaking views of the stage and iconic theater interior, provides an ideal setting for an intimate and elegant celebration. The original art deco-inspired details and plush seating arrangements add an extra element of sophistication and comfort, ensuring that guests are treated to a truly memorable experience.
From an intimate gathering to a grand affair, the Louisville Palace caters to weddings of all sizes. The versatility of the venue allows for creative customization, ensuring each couple’s unique vision can come to life. Whether your dream wedding is an intimate candlelit ceremony or a lavish celebration under the theater lights, the Louisville Palace can accommodate the event of your dreams. It is also a great place to see a play, comedian, or musical.

On a fall afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was Louisville Waterfront Park. This unique park is situated on the Ohio River facing Indiana and is a multi-acre park that has concert areas, green space, playgrounds, and a railroad bridge called The Big Four Bridge. The approach to the bridge is 1/4 mile and has an awesome looping ramp. I spent a while photographing the Ohio River, the bridge, Indiana, and Kentucky. The bridge is beautiful and is a great reuse of an abandoned railroad bridge.
Recently I have been driving through the city quite a bit and I love seeing the other bridges going from Kentucky to Indiana. None are as cool or as historic as the Big 4. The views from this bridge can’t be beaten because you can see all of downtown. Each of the bridges in Louisville is unique but they all look good together. I love this first photo showing two bridges side by side. One is artistic and one is just a bunch of metal beams.
This park is a mile or so east of downtown, so it is not easily walkable. There is plenty of free parking at the base of the bridge, so I recommend using that. Park in the city if you are just going to explore the downtown area. Creating these travel photos is so much fun!
