In the early 2000s, we took two-day trips to Windsor Canada, passing through Detroit Michigan. Each time, I saw this large, old, and abandoned train station on the outskirts of downtown Detroit. Over the years, this historic building, Michigan Central Station, has been in the back of my mind. In the meantime, I have been a part of several Dayton Ohio redevelopment and revitalization projects. In July 2024, both of these came together. Hopefully, in the future, I can photograph a wedding here.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, I drove to Detroit to visit three locations in the city. The first and most important was Michigan Central Station. In June 2024, this former train station and office building reopened after being vacant for more than 30 years. Over the last few years, Ford spent between 500 and 900 million dollars to fully restore and modernize this amazing structure.
The stunning beauty and craftsmanship took my breath away. The building is stunning, and the work Ford did to restore it only adds to the beauty. The park and plaza in front of the structure are perfectly done and welcome workers and visitors. For Summer 2024, there are tours on Saturdays. However, on this Saturday, it was closed. I will be going back in August for Summer at the Station to take a tour. Great job Ford!!
