On a fall afternoon, I spent a few hours wandering around downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One location I wanted to photograph was Louisville Waterfront Park. This unique park is situated on the Ohio River facing Indiana and is a multi-acre park that has concert areas, green space, playgrounds, and a railroad bridge called The Big Four Bridge. The approach to the bridge is 1/4 mile and has an awesome looping ramp. I spent a while photographing the Ohio River, the bridge, Indiana, and Kentucky. The bridge is beautiful and is a great reuse of an abandoned railroad bridge.
Recently I have been driving through the city quite a bit and I love seeing the other bridges going from Kentucky to Indiana. None are as cool or as historic as the Big 4. The views from this bridge can’t be beaten because you can see all of downtown. Each of the bridges in Louisville is unique but they all look good together. I love this first photo showing two bridges side by side. One is artistic and one is just a bunch of metal beams.
This park is a mile or so east of downtown, so it is not easily walkable. There is plenty of free parking at the base of the bridge, so I recommend using that. Park in the city if you are just going to explore the downtown area. Creating these travel photos is so much fun!
