On a recent trip to Detroit, Michigan, I toured Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Redwings NHL hockey team. This is also the Detroit Pistons‘ home court as well. The reason I wanted to tour this arena is because it hosts some of the biggest concerts every year. Being a concert photographer, I always love seeing new concert venues and documenting the empty venues.
Little Caesars Arena, LCA, is a 17,000-seat event venue that sits only a 5-minute walk from the core downtown area. It is a modern facility with parking lots all around the outside. The arena offers tours through their website, and the tours are worth the $20 fee. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.
Some of the biggest names in music have performed in concert at LCA, but it is most famous for housing the Detroit Redwings. One of the coolest things on the tour was seeing the practice ice rink underground. This rink is surrounded by Redwings championship banners and 200 seats. It is generally not open to the public, so it was cool to photograph it.
One thing I loved at LCA was the gondolas which are seating areas hanging from the ceiling. We were permitted to visit one of them, and the view down to the floor was amazing. It would be cool to see a hockey game from this viewpoint.
