Chicago has been one of my favorite cities to photograph since my first visit 17 years ago. Over the years, I photographed Chicago with a film point-and-shoot digital camera, and most recently, DSLR cameras. No matter what I’m using, I try to find interesting angles and objects to photograph. Anyone who is a fan of architecture, public transit, or big cities will love photographing the Windy City. Part of my goal was to find the best downtown Chicago hotel I could recommend to future wedding couples.
As a wedding and engagement photographer, I walk around the city looking for picturesque locations. I would love to photograph brides and grooms in new spots. Some of the images below are examples from a Summer 2018 trip to scout locations around Chicago’s Magnificent Mile and Chicago River.
Conrad Hotel Chicago, a Hilton hotel, is an excellent place to stay in downtown Chicago, Illinois. I spend a great deal of time scouting locations and hotels to ensure I get a high-quality hotel in a good location. The Conrad sits 1/2 block from Michigan Avenue in the heart of the Magnificent Mile / River North area of Chicago. The location was perfect, and the hotel was top-notch! This is a hip and classy hotel that has a rooftop bar, excellent service, and tech-friendly rooms. The design of the entire hotel was edgy, and it would be an amazing backdrop for bridal portraits!
Downtown Chicago has an endless supply of things to do while photographing weddings and engagements. If there is a special interest that the bride and groom have, Chicago can accommodate it! Unique photography venues could be concert halls, parks, hotels, museums, abandoned buildings, trains, and more. For a Dayton and Cincinnati wedding photographer like me, Chicago is a dream wedding photography destination. I hope to begin photographing amazing weddings in downtown Chicago very soon. I would also love to do a multi-hour engagement session in downtown Chicago.
Because Chicago is a large city with some of the largest skyscrapers in the United States, the light is constantly changing. The sun moves behind buildings and emerges from behind other buildings. Spending a day or two scouting locations and watching where shadows fall will be beneficial to any bridal portrait or engagement session. Additionally, be aware that it is a city with millions of people in it, so there can potentially be people in all of your shots. Planning ahead will help ensure the most beautiful Chicago-themed wedding and engagement photos!
Within two square miles of the Michigan Avenue and Chicago River intersection, brides, grooms, and engaged couples can find endless opportunities for unique Chicago wedding photo ideas. Hiring a Dayton and Cincinnati wedding and engagement photographer may seem strange, but even with a travel fee and hotel reservation, I am considerably less expensive than comparable Chicago wedding and engagement photographers. Consider hiring Kevin Lush Photography to photograph your downtown Chicago wedding and engagement! I am a Dayton Ohio based travel photographer.
