We have made Maryland’s best winery a tradition in our family. Black Ankle Vineyard in Mt. Airy Maryland is a hidden gem of a winery in the foothills of the state. Each year we spend a Saturday evening enjoying wine and watching the sunset over the vines.
While I don’t drink, I love everything about Black Ankle. The aesthetic is beautiful, and the venue blends into the hills perfectly. The roof lines mimic the curves of the earth.
The staff is very professional and accommodating. We get reservations each year and always get a good table. Because there is no kitchen on-site, you can bring your own food. In the past two years, there was a food truck present. This year, there was a music group playing acoustic hits and taking requests.
The kids love to run around the large open field and play on the rocks. There are toys and coloring books to borrow as well. One of the nicest touches is the availability of wool blankets for guests to use. Once the sun goes down over the hills, it can get quite chilly on the property.
